Default Would like to get opinions on buying first Monte Carlo

Hello, this is my first post. I am looking to get a late 70's - late 80's Monte Carlo and really excited! I currently have a 68 El Camino with a 327 in it and selling because I'm looking for more of a daily driver with better fuel economy. Can you guys guide me to a Monte Carlo or engine size in the years I stated that has the best mpg? Looking to buy a car soon so any post would help a great deal!

if u got the cash go for a 06/07 ss has the v8 and has the displacement on demand from 8 to 4 cylinder mode so u get good mileage with it ifff u drive it on flat roads and dont pass anyone lol ( but yea the 07 i had gave me good mileage mid 20 range if driven with light foot but when i got into it ive averaged 17ish..) but depends on size engine u want and older u get into the more mileage and wear and tear ur looking at unless u can redo her..

Yeah I would prefer an older one, thanks for the info though! Unfortunately I live in the Seattle area and there's not many flat roads here, hills everywhere!

Well first off you aren't gonna get any mileage out of an 80's era SS. I had an 88SS and 305 with that whopping 180Hp and it sure did like the gas.I had an 86 that probably came with a V6 and switched to a 350 with no computer and it did better and also bored 30 over to a 355.

Thanks to everyone for the input! So trying to find a V6 is the thing to do? I ask because I have heard or read somewhere that certain 8's have equal if not better mpg. I have been looking for strictly V6's on my local craigslist and need to know if certain V8's would be ok too.

I would look for an 80's v6 that is probably your best bet. I don't know how great the mileage will be tho. I would like to see pics of that El Camino you mentioned.
