Default ex ford guy..

yes its true, i owned a 1989 mustang 5.0 lx sport, 5 speed. however i was in an accident in which the engine was pushed through the fire wall and the frame was bent as well as 3 of my rims, i hopped the median and my car stopped in the oncoming lane, i looked to my right and could reach out and touch the outside of my passenger door....i walked away without a scratch to my amazment and was fine, thankfully no one was hurt. to this day im still in shock my bu im ok so i aint complainin!

well i joined this forum to hopfuly get some reliable information on monte carlos, i have always loved the 80's monte carlo body style and was wondering if you guys could help me out with some basic information. i am looking for a 350 monte carlo nd was wondering how much these engines can handle, are they reliable? how easy is it to get power out of them? im sure ill have more questions as this goes on but that enough of me blabbin for now, thanks guys!

in the 400+ range many a times... and the 80's g body style never came with a 350 but can easily be transplanted into it

'83-'84 Monte Carlo SSs came with a 305, TH350-C trans, and a 3.42 rear. The '85-'88 SS's came with a 305, 200-4R trans, and a 3.73 rear. Posi was optional on all years. It is easy enough to swap a 350 into the Monte; the motor is the same size on the outside as a 305, and the mounts are in the same place. The 200-4R can be built to withstand some serious HP - the only real "weakpoint" is the rear, and that's only if the car hooks up. They're a lot of fun to drive, comfy on long trips, and have plenty of room inside. Good luck on the search!

you can find a decent 350 damn near anywhere, if you REALLY look you can even score em for free... my dad has 6-7 of em laying around here, most were rebuilt , and they were ALL free if you REALLY wanna build a high HP engine, you need to look for one with 4 bolt mains... if you are on a thinner budget, a 350 with 2 bolt mains will be less expensave & will accept any of the bolt on parts as the 4 bolt engine, but with the 2 bolt engine you wanna stay away from nos / superchargers / anything really radical...
but the 350 has an amazing aftermarket, as does the rest of the running gear in those montes... check it out
