distorted sound coming from speakers

]I have a 2005 chevolet monte carlo with factory radio,factory amp,and just put new speakers in.If you turn the volume up past half,the sound is distorted.what should I check to fix the problem?

First make sure you did not scrape any wires down to bare wire during the speaker change.

would a defect in the amp cause the sound to be distorted?

finally figured out what the problem was. A power wire in the wiring harness had corroded and the amp was not getting the right wattage,repaired it and now have clean sound again!!!
