Hello I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS 3.8 and I am failing the emission test bcuz of a p0650 code could anybody explain 2 me what this code means and how 2 get it fixed!Thanx

 

P0650 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp Control Circuit Malfunction

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel. When the ignition switch is turned ON without the engine running the MIL will light up. This is a bulb check. When the engine is started the MIL should go off. If it remains on, the on board diagnostic system has detected an engine system malfunction.

There are a couple things that could cause the code to be thrown; the harness or connectors for the MIL circuit are open or shorted. The MIL bulb may be faulty, or a faulty ECM.

You're just failing the test because any CEL will cause you to fail. You can clear the code with a code reader, however, it will just come back until you fix it.

 

I had an ndash after market radio put in my car and some1 broke in and stole the radio out!I got it replaced with another!By the radio bein stolen out the car would it possibly cause a p0650 code to appear?

 

The reason why I went into the whole radio thing is because 1 of my harnesses was sticking out and they stole the other and as I was reading your post I see that u have mentioned harnesses.Plus when I turn my car on without the engine running only light that comes on is my door is open and that my high beam light is out!But I noticed I have never seen my check engine light come on b4 and I am failing the emissions!Plus one time the check coolant light came on in red but no check engine light!It seems like the computer is reading out some problems but not others!I just dont no where to start from without getting ripped off!Can u please help me???
