Default Climate Control Modification

Hello All,

I'm in the process of working on a 1972 Monte Carlo and want to change my climate control switch out. Now the fun part.... I want to put a more up to date control in it and need help matching the wires. I have a climate control switch from a 2011 Impala that I want to put in my 72. I will think it could be done has anyone completed this task if so any help or directions on completing it will help.

Thanks,

Rodney

Rodney, I'm willing to bet there is a lot more to overcome with your proposed control swap.

Cars from around pre-2000-ish later had a lot of vacuum lines operating your climate controls. Moving to post-200-ish, manufacturers began to switch to electronically driven controls. I say "ish" because there is no definite line in the sand when the switch took place, depends on the car model and manufacturer.

With out 100% knowledge, from what I know thus far, to put a 2011 control unit in a '72 you would need the actuators that drive the controls, more then likely a BCM (Body Control Module), run a bunch of wiring and then it "might" work (odds are you could bench test everything first, before putting it into the car).

If it is a mod you are truly interested in, keep up with the research and provide us some updates on your progress (as it could grab some other interest and get you more information or help someone else). I would speculate a first step is to obtain a 2011 Impala shop manual for information and diagrams on the HVAC controls.

Best of luck!
