Black '98 Monte Carlo LS
Thanks Everyone! I'm used to working on Big Block & Small Block '60-'70's Impala SS,
Chevelles, & Camaros. I'm a little nervous of the Computer stuff on this car - but it
doesn't make sense to drive a Carburated V-8's around for normal transportation!
( I was driving my '70 C-10 with an L-48 Vette motor. - ouch $$)
The nice thing about the Monte Carlo is you can get 5 people in it and still get decent mileage. I just need to read up on the computer, sensors & such.
Everyone asks me if it's a Dale Earnhardt Ed. or an Intimadator as I have a number 3
in the back of ea. side window...
It's a Shame that Monte Carlo's had to go away. With Pontiac out of the picture,
I would think that Chevrolet would grab on to the G8 & have a 4 door Impala SS
& then come out with a Monte Carlo & SS on that platform...
They would sell like hotcakes!
Thanks again for the warm welcome. I will try to get some pix posted as it
is a nice looking example for having 96,000 mi!

I totally agree that you should flush the Dex-cool...
Also, use distilled drinking water when flushing. This will keep hard water build up from inside your cooling system.
The best way that I have found to flush out all the Dex-cool is to literally drain the radiator, fill it back up with 100% distilled water, run the car till it is at operating temp for a few min, then shut the car off, drain the radiator, and repeat over and over until the water coming out of the radiator is 100% pure ditilled water. Then once you have drained the radiator, fill it with 100% straight coolant. Make sure you use concentrate because by this time you have straight water in the block, and mixing that with straight coolant will give you about a 50/50 mix (or at least close enough)....
Also, as far as I know, Prestone does not make the regular green stuff anymore. Prestones regular coolant is also a long life coolant that can mix with ANY coolant, and ANY color...I recommend you use this new formula Prestone. Its the one in the well known yellow bottle, and the coolant itself is a neon yellow color....I've put it in 3 cars originally equipped with Dex-cool, and had good luck with the stuff.....
Hope this helps!

Really, everyone here is AWESOME, to the best of my knowledge, EVERYONE gets along GREAT, and we all LOVE our Monte Carlo's...everything from driving them, to talking about them...

Enjoy the forum!
This is to everyone... You have given me alot more Confidence in my self.
I'm pretty old school -- so we will see what happens when the ole check
engine like comes on! It's sure not like the old CCC on the '82 Camaro Pace car, where you can ground it -- and read the flashes to get the code! Auto Zone told me they could read the computer for free.
Now if I can get the car away from my wife!
Thanks Again.
Have a great weekend!

Hey Mark!
Welcome to the forum!
After reading this thread, I'm with the others who would love to see some pics of your cars when you get a chance. Sounds like a pretty nice garage you got going.
Did you or your dad put the 3's on the Monte? I know Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet (his dealership) customized about a dozon or so black 5th gen Montes back when they were new. He even autographed the dash of each one.
You'll find that there are a lot of fans of black Montes here. Hope you enjoy your new-to-you Monte, and the site!

Well,
I used to work for a Decal Company as a Commercial Artist/
film stripping. I actually still have some of the Decals Dale SR had on his
Car from '94 - '98, so putting a number 3 on ea. back window was
no problem! I also did decals for the rest on Nascar field, Indianapolis 500's, Nasa missions, Chevrolet (Mr. Goodwrench) etc...
I cut alot of 3's from white decal stock. Not hard to do. alot of
small printing company's carry the White Vinyl Adhesive material.
