Smile Black '98 Monte Carlo LS

Hello to everyone. Just purchased the above from my father with 96,000
miles on it. It was a very good car for him. He never really had problems
except the common Dex-cool deal. I would like to power flush that all
out & put conventional Prestone in it. Would that work okay ?

How long does a typical 3100 last if it is given good care ?

Thanks!

You can do a full dex-cool flush, there are a few posts about that tutorial, and put in the green stuff. But you HAVE to get all the dexcool out first, because if you miss some, dexcool + green stuff = SLUDGE/MUDDY GUNK.

Routine maintenance, being easy on it... etc. There is no reason why it can't last you 200,000 miles. The biggest problem with the 3.1 is the gaskets though.

Welcome to the MCF family. Personally, I would use one of the coolants compatable with both types.
