Default 2004 dale Jr Monte Carlo SS

Hey guys I am new to the forum. I have owned my monte for three years now and no modes yet. I did however change out the struts and shocks and some ball joints. Went to the tire shop about a week after installation and bought new tires. Same size they took off 235/55 17 and when I left the shop the back ones where rubbing the shield of my struts. So went back and they put on some 225/55 17 and gave me less than a quarter of an in. Clearance. One is this gonna hurt my car driving with different size tires, two what would cause that to happen, old tires fit just fine??? Tire place said they have no clue why.. thanks for reading and nice to finally be in the forum. .
