Oil would be gray/blue smoke, and fuel issues would be black smoke. If you are constantly seeing white smoke even after the car is warmed up, and you DON'T believe it's from your head gasket also check your transmission fluid.
Clear liquid could also just be condensation, you could have condensation in your exhaust, have you been running the AC frequently?

I have a 2001 LS also and I have the LIM leak, but it's hard to see because its on the rear of the engine below the trottlebody/thermostat and all the darn a/c-heater lines. Mine is bad enough though that the coolant pooled on top of the transmission. Saving up to do the gasket change myself, and I'll probably try the timing chain and water pump while I'm in there... never done it before, but looking forward to it. the 'proper torque' is my biggest concern.
