Default Thoughts on 2011

So far, I think we have seen some great racing this year. I love the two car drafting at Daytona.. better than big pack racing.... it's not like watching a fast parking lot all day, there is strategy and an element of having a good car to it. Phoenix saw some great racing, and a potential reason for Edwards to put the **** out of Kyle Busch shoudl they end up racing together. We've seen some of the best teams have engine trouble, with Busch at Vegas, and Logano at Phoenix, and RCR had trouble at Daytona.

The new points makes figuring out the statistics easier, but it creates this system where the human mind doesn't perceive numbers very well. Edwards is 7 points out of the lead.. 7 positions, and that sounds really close... but last year, he would ahve been about 30 points out of the lead right now.

We've seen 3 different types of tracks.. the Hendrick guys were just mediocre at best on the 1.5 mile.. and thats where Hendrick will traditionally struggle, but I think they will have it together come chase time. They're not struggling.. but they're not really dominating either. Plus, Earnhardt has been running really good. I think Hendrick made a brilliant move by swapping the crew cheifs around. I think Gordon is back, but his best days are behind him, unfortunately, and Martin is slow and steady there so far. Roush and the Furd teams are running really good. Trevor Bayne and Jeff Gordon gave good feel good vibes to start off the year. The new front nose is looking good and I think it makes the car handle better.

I love the Nationwide cars as well. Patrick is running fair. I want to see a revamp of teh cup car more like the Nationwide car!! That thing looks good!

It's been a year of underdogs too... The Wood Brothers are running good and won Daytona, Michael Waltrip Racing has been running really good, Richard Petty Racing has Ambrose setting up for a career year and Allmendinger running fair. Regan Smith had a flash of brilliance for 2 races... not much to be seen now.

So Bristol is coming up... I think there will be a big wreck somewhere judging by what we've seen of how the competition is so fierce this year... I think it will be a Ford and Toyota battle at the front though.

So post your thoughts on 2011 so far!!!

I will chime in here. I am happy with the racing this year. Las Vegas was not very good though. Boring race IMO. RCR has really surprised with the lack of, Hard to believe Menard is carrying the banner. I am sure that will change though. I am happy with J Johnsons results and hope he keeps up the sub par performance. As with people who win all the time, we get tired of seeing it, unless your a fan which I am not. Godd driver yes, but him and Chad just totally get on my nerves with their constant love of each other and NEW LEADER 48 car. Tony was the original with here Kitty Kitty. That was good. Jr. has improved but has lost me pretty much. I do think he can do it, just not sure what the problem is. Harvick is the man I guess. Glad to see Gordon doing well. I used to not like him either but he is ok. Carl Edwards just is annoying. He will break an ankle soon if he keeps it up. IMO again, that is just stupid. He isn't all that good at it if you saw last weeks flip. Sorry to sound mean. Kurt Busch seems to be doing well for Dodge camp and hope to see him win some. Between the shrubs(Busch Bros) it is feast or famine. When they are on it, they're on it. If I have offended anyone, sorry. This is a forum and this is an opinion thread.

I always figured Carl Edwards would get his foot caught on the window ledge and land flat on his back or head and miss half a season. I agree with a lot of what you said though. Jimmie Johnson is a slow starter by nature, but he'll be in the mix come Homestead, I think... unfortunately. It seems like it's going to be a Ford kind of year so far. Hendrick hasn't been bad, but they haven't looked dominant yet either. Earnhardt Jr. is running good, but I don't care one way or another. How he has managed to hold on to this many fans this long, I do not know.

I've enjoyed the races more than usual this year. I still haven't been able to watch full races, though. I even like to check the results/standings to see how you guys are doing in the fantasy league.

I know its all for fun, but I just don't feel like I can dedicate the time to researching and making informed picks for the weekly races.

Pick 3 cars/guys and go with it, no researching and you could be a weekly winner, go for it! I pick 3 the night before the race and see how I do.....

The season has been Ok so far. we will see where the new points system gets us. I just need to start picking drivers that are running at the end of a race. The fantasy league is pretty fun tho more people should get involved. Even if it's not for the championship just for the single race bragging rights.

Cowboy`Duane,
EnJoyed your write up & member's comments..Thanks for your time & dedication & getting member's involved.

K.J., I don't have the time to research, and I just guess @ my picks, but it's fun even `if I don't get the chance to watch the race...(That's what I love about the web & being able to check up who won & a brief recap of each race...

I hope more member's get involved...EnJoy/Peace/Out

He is also 8th in points!! LOL! NASCAR puts a video up each week called Fantasy Showdown for the NASCAR.com end of things where they pick a driver who is solid at that track, a driver to avoid picking, and a long shot pick. I also watch qualifying and practice speeds, and aall of this has landed me 5th, and out of 10, I'm not really doing a whole lot better.

Those of us who have participated in every race are actually within 60 points of each other, so in theory, it could swing a lot right now, just like the real points. Plus, the plan right now is to reset after 9 races. It gives the guys at the back a chance at redemption. If it stays pretty tight come Darlington, and it's okay with everyone, we may not reset, I don't know.
