I've seen it a long time ago. And it was at Talladega that this happened, by the way.

Randy Owens was Linda Petty's kid cousin. She partially raised him along with her mother? I guess... they were close somehow and he was family to the Petty's.

The incident in question started because a wheel bearing had caught fire. Very rare that this happens, but it did.

Kyle Petty worked in the pits too. They were working together to fill the pressure tank. It just so happened that Randy is the one who moved to wherever one of them had ot move to to finish the job.

After the accident, the Petty's all lost any spirit they may have had and pulled the car behind the wall and went home.

IT was just a series of unfortunate events. The only thing to say is that it was just his time....

Years later, Kyle recounted the incident and Linda as well.. Linda never said anything and waited for Kyle or Richard to talk to her about it. They were driving somewhere years later and Kyle looked at Linda while they were alone and said, "I just want you to know I did everything I could to save Randy...." that was it...

So the tank blew up on the other side of the area the car stopped? It's confusing to me as to where the tank was, can you explain more. From the video it shows the tank a long way off?? Thanks Duane....

It was. The tank was well behind the pit wall and landed behind the pit wall, although close to the race track. It was just one of those deals that never happens but it did.
