Picks/Pocono/SundayAfternoon
Carl has been putting up some pretty cool stuff with his picks this year. I appreciate it!! How are you doing those?
At this poitn in the year, we can talk title contenders in real life and on the MCF. Personally, I feel like one needs to be within 100 points of the lead leaving Daytona in July, when we end Segment 2. I think Carl and Brent are on the catbirds seat right now, and I feel like only the top 10 right now are really in contention. 11th place right now is Mike, 177 points out, and I think that is too much. Nothing he did wrong, necssarily, just a lot of bad luck. It's been a tough year for several who had good years last year. I'm 79 points out and needing to get some good stuff going if I'm going to contend for the title this year myself.
If anyone as a long shoot needs hope, zjerry is your role model. Last year, when he left Pocono, he was 200 points out of the lead. At the end of the year, he was 4th place, but 58 points out... a 142 point gain in about 20 races. It's possible to make a big gain, but you've got to get it turned around and moving in the right direction this weekend... just like he did last year when he won Pocono.
As we get to the boring summer snoozing races, you still have to pay attention and nail the picks to stay in contention!!!
And for more boring stats... last year, Brent led the points going into Pocono with 1315 points. That is the same amount of points as I have in 5th place this year. That means anyone in our top 5 would have been the points leader had this been last year. This year is just so much more competitive. It takes more luck and more thinking/more heart going into your picks to win races and score a lot of points this year. It's tough out there!
