Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day
If you watched Bobby Allison's NASCAR Hall of Fame Intro, he drove for great teams.... anyone from Holman Moody to Junior Johnson to Bondy Long.... big names in the late 60s and early 70s... and always somehow ended up back in his own red and white #2 '67 Chevelle...
Thing had a 327 engine in it too. I got a photo of that engine somewhere.

Back in the day, NASCAR had a hard time getting shots of cars racing side by side that were crisp and clean. To get shots, they would stage cars like this, have photographers get good shots, then release them in NASCAR publicity shots. This one is from 1953 was scanned out of Greg Fielden's NASCAR Chronicle.

This is Buddy Bakers car after a crash in the 1969 race at Texas World Speedway, run in about late October or November sometime.
The story of this picture is that Baker dominated the race, leading like 131 of 200 laps. With 20 to go, a caution came out for a blown engine and I think Baker had a 1 lap lead on the 2nd place driver. The car owner, Cotton Owens, held up the pit board sign that said "YOU HAVE IT WON!"
As Baker was trying to read the sign, thinking it said he had to pit or something to that affect, he crashed into the back of James Hylton (yeap, same one who runs ARCA to this day) and ruined the front end of his car... under a caution....
Those who were there said it was a very quiet plane ride back to North Carolina...
