Intro to Phoenix
With the repave, new teams have emerged as strong at Phoenix. The Gibbs cars dominated this race a couple of years ago, Carl Edwards has run very well, and Harvick has done well too! Johnson hasn't done as well, nor have a few others.... so lets break 'er on down, shall we?
First off, qualifying is different, but that won't matter so much for the race. The new rules concerning ride heights will help some teams with their suspensions. This will end "coil binding" and trying to set up the tire as part of the suspension. I think teams that used to be dominant, like Jeff Gordon or the Roush cars, might actually come back to life.
CHEVROLET
Hendrick
I think Hendrick will be strong as ever... Johnson should be back, Earnhardt Jr is good at Phoenix anyway, and hten Kahne won a few years ago with Red Bull.... then Gordon won the last race on the old surface....
Childress
This team didn't have it in the race at Daytona and I think losing Harvick is going to hurt the team... we shall see...
Stewart-Haas
Harvick has won twice on the new surface and we'll see how he gets on with a new team. Kurt Busch is from near here.... Patrick lives there and has run "Decent.."... but until we see how well "smoke" has recovered, I think Harvick is the only one to bother with.
Furniture Row
We'll just have to see how Truex does with this team...
FORD TEAMS
Roush
Carl Edwards is the man here latley... should have won last year if he had enough gas. Another thing about Edwards is that he is always good in contract years. Biffle is also like that... so I think both cars will be great. STenhouse is still developing.
Penske
Brad K has run alright here, especially in spring races. Logano has a 9th. But Brad K is the only consistnet one in the bucnh.
TOYOTA TEAMS
Gibbs
The Gibbs gangruns well here.... Hamlin has a "winter home" in Phoenix..... and nearly won here a couple years back. Busch runs well here, but Kenseht hasn't shown any strength here at all lately. He botched his whole championship run here last year.
MWR
Bowyer and Vickers are both good short trackers... if they're good in practice, they may be worth paying attention to.
My Picks
1) Carl Edwards
2) Brad Keselowski
3) Joey Logano
