Mark Martin at Martinvsille went from like a 15th place car to 2nd one year without a rear bumper.... then Kevin Harvick beet Redneck Jesus at Martinsville with a missing rear bumper that one time.....




For more information, look up "Bumpergate" at I believe the 1981 Daytona 500. I think Jimmy Fennig, who now crew chiefs for Edwards, was the one who had the team secure the bumper loosely to Bobby Allisons car, knowing it would fall off. Allison was like 3 mph faster after that.

I sure remember the Martin run. Was Jimmy Fennig the crew chief when Carl Edwards had that oil tank lid come loose a few year ago?

That would be Bob Osbourne who now works in engineering over there at Roush. judging by how they run, someone over there needs to be fired.

Bob should probably get the job back. But I think it's too little, too late. Carl won't be at Roush next year - I'm pretty certain. The rule is: there are no rumors in NASCAR. Hopefully Carl stays in the Ford loop and Penske expands. If he goes to Gibbs I'll have to hate him forever...

Unfortunatly I would hate him forever as well.. Ford threw a lot of money at that guy in 2008 and 2011 to keep him in blue ovals. They've given him all kinds of cars and chuckles too. Penske says he won't expand to a third team and such a move "doesn't maek sense" but he seems to have no qualms about putting Montoya in a third car at Michigan... .and all three Penske cars beat all three Roush cars today too. I'll bear that in mind as I pick for Sonoma next week...

I'm really hanging in there (mentally) that Penske is BS'ing. A 3rd car does not seem a reach to anyone else in NASCAR. And Carl, despite some historical rivalry with Brad, seems a pretty good fit at Penske. I hope that can work out. I also hope that Carl recognizes that his marketability goes right down the toilet when he signs with Toyota.
