I'm going to Martinsville!!!
That's right, for the third year in a row, I will be making my annual pilgrimage to Martinsville!
Since I will be at the race, I will not be available for immediate post race postings of results and points. I would like to ask someone to volunteer to take over these duties. It will take me approximately 3-4 hours to leave the track and get back to my home in Oxford, Nc. My college roommate will also be with me... and we love this place!!!
Points and Congratulatory Remarks
First off, congrats to 02 Earnhardt for winning Kansas! That was his first win in his MCF NASCAR Fantasy Career!
Carl extended his overall points lead and took the Segment lead away from me. I'll be wanting that back this weekend, Carl!
With 4 races to go, it is possible that Carl could be overtaken for the overall lead, but it is looking less and less likely.
Take a ride around Martinsville with me!!!
In May of 2011, on NASCAR Day, I took my Torino to Martinsville, VA to take 3 laps around the track and get a bath! On the second lap, we stopped at the finish line to take pictures. Then we took a better video with the better camera on our last lap as we exited the race track.

Martinsville History
This is the oldest track on the schedule, although not the oldest paved track.... but it was known at one time for its beauty... they used to have bushes planted all aorund the corners.
And even today, the way you go to this track through the foothills of the appalachains... it's just a beautiful site!
And it was crazy back in the day, as you can see in tehse pictures!!
Richard Petty wins at Martinsville in 1968... one of his 15 wins, most of all drivers, at Martinsville

THAT LAST RESTART!!!
![](http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee320/SuperSlowMonte/100_1843.jpg)
Martinsville This Year
Martinsville is prone to streaks. Jeff Gordon dominated in the 90s. Jimmie Johnson took it from him last decade. It was begining to look like this was becoming the house of Denny, yet the last couple of Martinsville races have seen some itneresting winners. Ryan Newman runs well here and won in the spring.
But I still thing the regulars will be regulars right now...
The Favorites
When you think Martinsville, you have to think Hendrick Motorsports. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have so many wins here it isn't even funny. Dale Earnhardt Jr might be back this week, nad this is actually one of his best race tracks. Kasey Kahne is good at Martinsville, but he blew up i nthe spring so we don't know how he'll do with that new team.
And for Hendrick, this track means a lot. It has been the site of many triumphs, with theri first win with Geoff Bodine here, many more wins with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, and it also holds a tragic spot in their hearts, as this was the site of that plane accident in 2004 that some questioned if the team could recover from the loss.... but they did.
Another team that has to be looked at this week is Joe Gibbs Racing. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch are great at this track! And I think those two will be guys to watch as well.
When you think of this track, the favorites are the favorites for a really good reason. I'm not listing many favorites this week either..
Tony Stewart has spoiled the Hendrick-Gibbs party a few times... most of those times when he was with Gibbs! But he proved last year he can make things rough and contend at Martinsville if he wants to.
Ones to Watch
My first one to watch is Brad Keselowski. This guy has made phenomenal progress in his cup career, but he has never been good at Martinsville. Stats haven't mattered to this guy nad he says he doesn't look at them, but the thing is, he has done well on bad tracks for him that were banked. This is a short, flat track. And it might be Miller Time in Martinsville Sunday, but to me, this guy looks like he has lost a little momentum... I think he will be doing the best he can to just not lose points to Jimmie and Denny... if he can leave Martinsville with the points lead, mission accomplished.... go to Texas and do what he can.
Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Joey Logano, and even Brian Vickers have to be guys to look out for at Martinsville.
At one time, Jeff Burton was good here... but with his luck and team in the shambles they are this year, run as far as you can. I don't htink anyone has picked Burton all year...
The MWR cars have been so strong, and this has been such a Cinderella story... and I think Bowyer is the main one to watch here, this is going to be a chance for him to shine, but I think that Truex is borderline a dud.
The Duds
This week, ye must avoid any car that has a blue oval on it. Ford's hate Martinsville... even in the 70's, they hated Martinsville. They ran well here last year after starting up front due to cancellation of qualifying and points, and those were the only laps Edwards ever led here... those guys were going laps down in this race and wave arounds/lucky dogs saved Edwards championship hopes here last year. Roush can't stand the place. Although they're getting momentum back right now, I just think they have to be cars to avoid this weekend.
My Picks
I've got to go with the tried and true...
1) Jimmie Johnson
2) Denny Hamlin
3) Jeff Gordon
Good luck everyone.... 4 more races to go this year!!!

Now that we have that covered.... is anyone going to volunteer to calculate the points after the Martinsville race or am I going to have to pull my high school teacher "just call on somebody who isn't paying attention to get them back on task" trick?

I don't know how many of you guys watch RaceHub... but Matt Clark used to work for Hendrick and is telling everyone how Hendrick actually has a "play book" for crew members in teh event of an accident or engine failure or whatever on the race track. Each member has a job and they know what it is when there is an accident and the car is to be repaired in the pits. They practice this stuff. And that's what kept Jimmie in the title hunt this weekend...
Still no volunteers to calculate poitns after Martinsville. I'm thinking this responsibility should fall on the current points leader... sounds like a fair way to do it! I mean, Jerry (77GP) was 2nd in points last year when he did it for me....
