Picks for Homestead/Championship
Alright boys, off to settle a title and see who can win the last race of the year!!! so on top of everything else, lets make our top 3 picks for the race and our 1 pic for the championship. Do you think Jimmie and Denny are both experienced enough drivers not to drive too hard and wreck one another? I think Jimmie is... but what about Denny?
And here is the way I am looking at this whole thing. Jimmie has been off for several weeks. Jimmie and Denny were the favorites going into Martinsville. Well I was at Martinsville and I don't recall seeing the 48 even lead a lap. Talladega was a wild card, of course, and he ran decent. But then, that 48 wasn't a major factor at any point in Texas to my recollection, and going into Phoenix, he wasn't a major factor there either!!!! Denny, however, had the best car at Martinsville, was good at Talladega, and had the best car at Texas and Phoenix. So as long as he can keep his head held high, he's going to have the best car at Homestead and I think he's going to take the championship. That being said, my championship pic is... Denny Hamlin Now onto the race. Denny is the defending winner, but Roush pwned the place for a long time. And I'm keeping an eye on Joey Logano. Guys, his last finishes: 7th at Charlotte, 6th at Martinsville, 5th at Talladega, 4th at Texas, and 3rd at Phoenix. Had he been in the chase, he'd be in 3rd place and we'd have a 4 car race for the championship. I say Joey Logano runs 2nd at Homestead and wins Daytona!!! Plus, Greg Biffle has been strong this year, Carl Edwards is trying to pour on some late season steam..... so here are my pics, in order, for Homestead. 1) Denny Hamlin 2) Joey Logano 3) Greg Biffle The Top 10 Breakdown: 3 Toyota's, 2 Chevrolets, 4 Fords, and a Dodge. Last Place: Robby Gordon Cautions: 6 |
...Hi `Duane,
Thanks for starting the Thread for the last Race & Championship picks...I enjoyed reading your logic & your picks for the race : ) I am going to try to watch the race with the BeachBum's `if my schedule works `out, but I'm not getting my hopes `up, cause I don't want to be let down : ( Without waiting for qualifying, I will make my guesses now  Space Picks for the Championship 1. J.J. (Cause he a proven winner & he drives a Chevy : ) 2. Denny Hamlin, he driving hard & I think he wants it 2 bad and will over drive ? 3. Kevin (could win if the above  have problems, but I will guess third place. I would love to see Joey Logano win, but I just hope he has a great race. I am sure we will be seeing him in victory lane, and it would be super `if he did get 2nd @ Homestead and starts the new season with a win @ Daytona : )~* That would be Smok'in : ) (6) cautions ~> Kyle Busch last place  He's won enough this year in everything : ) He sure has talent, but I don't like his personality @ `all...I do wish I had his talent & Bank Balance.. Breakdown: 4 Chevy's 4 Fords 1 Dodge 1 Toy & a U-Go : ) Thanks `Duane, and I hope I see more member's posting their picks/guesses : ) ***Brent (JrCar) It's your turn...Look'in 4ward to seeing who you pick...You & Duane both posess intense knowledge on NASCAR and I've enjoyed reading both of your posts in the NASCAR Threads over the season... OK, member's ~> Make your picks b-4 the start of the last race of the season ____________________________________:D |
Its too soon for me to make my picks for this race, let alone Daytona (but I don't think Logano will win that one). I agree that the Fords will dominate this one, but there aren't that many dominant Fords anymore. Sure would like to see RPM in victory lane before that house of cards collapses

Wish you a great `day & thanks for the laughs....... Look forward to reading who you pick for champion : ) |
The race - anyone but JJ. Of course I want Jr to win but not likely this year.
The Championship - see above. I want Harvick to win, but will be perfectly happy if Hamlin does, as long as it isn't JJ. |
I don't think it is too early to pick a Daytona 500 winnner. I have lost all faith that a driver has to be a special talent to win a restricter plate race. Winning the great American race isn't all about building that perfect car and having a really good driver like it was when Petty won his 7 500's. Now it's all about luck. It's like playing poker.
But Homestead isn't like that. And I stand by my picks. |
 From above links
Scenarios: How Hamlin can clinch the Cup Win or second and most laps led gets title; N'wide, Truck owner's titles up in air By Official Release DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- With only 15 points separating the top two drivers, the closest championship in the Chase's seven-year history won't be won easily. The only way points leader Denny Hamlin can guarantee a clinch of his first Sprint Cup Series championship is by either finishing second while leading the most laps or winning next Sunday's season finale, the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Jimmie Johnson, in second, and Kevin Harvick, in third, are the only other drivers still eligible to win the 2010 title. Harvick trails Hamlin by 46 points. Hamlin's 15-point lead is the closest margin between first and second in Chase history, bettering the 18-point difference Kurt Busch held over Johnson in 2004. Nationwide Series Though Brad Keselowski has already clinched the driver's championship, the owner's title has yet to be decided. The No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota holds a 41-point lead over the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge. The No. 18 can guarantee the title by finishing fifth, or sixth with at least one lap led, or seventh while leading the most laps on Saturday at Homestead. This season, the No. 18 has been driven by Kyle Busch (28 races) and Brad Coleman (six races). Busch is scheduled to drive at Homestead. Keselowski has run the full schedule in the No. 22. Camping World Truck Series Todd Bodine clinched his second Truck Series driver's championship. The 2010 owner's championship, though, has not been decided. The No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota holds a 120-point lead over the No. 30 Germain Racing Toyota going into Friday night's season finale at Homestead. The No. 18 can guarantee the title by finishing 29th, or 31st with at least one lap led, or 32nd while leading the most laps. This season, the No. 18 has been driven by Busch (15 races), Brian Ickler (seven races), Kasey Kahne (one race) and Johnny Benson (one race). Busch is scheduled to drive at Homestead. Bodine has run the full schedule in the No. 30. http://i.cdn.turner.com/nascar/.elem..._checkered.gif |
Well Carl Edwards was fastest in final practice about .7 mph over anyone else. He's looking to close out '10 strong!!! Jimmie was 3rd in practice, Denny was 30th. Do you think the 48 is getting into the 11's head?
|
 LOL `Duane, he might be getting in2 Denny's head, but I doubt `it....Denny does not want to show his power yet...
I agree with many that they would like to see a new Champion, but one has to give credit where credit is `do... I think Jimmy Johnson has represented NASCAR well in his last 4 years of winning the crown, but should he get greedy & not let other's win :rolleyes::D I think he & his team (or former J.G. team : ) will be doing everything they can to win the race & the title... I still believe it will all come down to Racing `Luck, because the remaining 3 are all talented with super teams...I think it's going to be a super race this Sunday.... Maybe none of the top 3 will be in the Top 3 in this last race of the season ? ? ? Maybe, just maybe Denny & Jimmy will have problems & Kevin will be TOP `Dog : )~* Thanks `Duane for the updates on practice...Carl could be the winner of this Race, with Joey 2nd :D... Hope everyone that likes NASCAR gets the chance to watch or listen to the Race.......I know I'm looking forward to it .... Peace/Out |
I don't think Denny can be as cool and collected as Jimmie and in the end Jimmie will win an unprecidented 5th championship - not the same old thing that has happened the last four years. The first 5 consectutive championships!
|
Happy Harvick will prevail and win it all! when sunday evening rolls around, remember that I "told you so" :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . I hope I'm not wrong ..... |
I hope you are right too monte carlo 3831. Harvick all the way to the top. Especially since he had a huge points lead before the stupid chase started. I Hate the Chase.
|
So Kahne got the pole! And I supposed to believe this team who usually qualifies 30th turned it all around on the drive from Phoenix to Miami? Somethings not right there. I'd more likely believe Kvapil got the pole, but I am bias.
I'm expect Deny to choke. He qualified crappy. But I like the guy, I really do. He is Nascar straightest shooter IMO. Some people say Tony Stewart is, which he is sorta, except Deny isn't as dillusional as Tony. I never disagree with Deny. I still don't know who to pick. I'm so nervous since this is the last pick of the year I gotta make it a good one... |

LOL `Brent, yes sleepless nights researching all the NASCAR sites to choose the correct driver for the `Win  Yes, it is a great honor to be awarded the Best MCF Pick'er of the Year :D LOL :) + all the glory & honors that goes with this title + a lifetime membership to the MCF... `Brent, you should sit down/kick back/fire one & contemplate this major decision B-4 you make your final choices : )~* We will be all waiting to read/see your post selections : ) 4-Real~> Sure :D Wish you a Super WeekEnd & a Great Final 2010 NASCAR race to watch & EnJoy..... |
Oh! Flippin' A!! I just did some readin' over at Jayski and I would like to be the second to start the rumor the Ray Evernham may find himself as Dale Jr's crew chief next year! That would really turn things around there I believe, but its purely speculation at this time. Evernham has been released from RPM to return to competion, which he has been interested in doing for sometime (but has been contractually obligated to GEM/RPM since he sold the team). The Hendrick operation can certainly afford it and Jr really needs it. Junior has already hinted that Lance McGrew won't likely be back on his team next year...
And I still haven't figured out my picks... |
I don't know who'll win the race but I'm pickin' Harvick to win the title.
Evernham has already said he doesn't want to return fulltime, so I seriously doubt he'll be Jr's crew chief, but I think there is a really good possibility he'll go back to work at Hendrick Motorsports in some kind of management position. |
Ray Evernham did indeed say he would like to be involved in NASCAR competition but not as an owner. He also said he's not interested in being a crew chief again, because he's done that and he feels he has accomplished all he can. i think what he woudl really prefer is something liek a shop job, a big project, somethign that he doesn't have to travel all over the country anymore. I think Jr. doesn't have the drive to do this anymore. I know he can, he won a couple of Nationwide championships in the 90s, won some races with his daddy on the track... and a lot of people say NASCAR rigged some races for him, but he won races long before anyone would ever have sympathy on him. And if NASCAR wants to rig races, they should have rigged a few for that Kerry Earnhardt. That guy wrecked more cars than Danica Patrick. Jr. is always depressed when he gets out of car, never looks excited to be driving anymore. He can run good and still look upset. He's like Kyle Busch, but without hte enthusiasm.
And I think if Ray returns to the pit box, it needs to be for the 24. I have completely lost faith in Steve Letarte's ability to call a race and adjust a car. Jeff runs great in practice, but he can't keep the tires on the car and he can't seem to keep up with the race track. He's great at the beginning or middle of a race, but it's like Steve is scared to adjust the car to make it better. Put Ray Evernham back up there, that man will make the call!!! |
Ok... I gotta make some picks. I'm anxious. Nervous and restless!
Probably gonna be another Ford day. Ford don't sponsor this race for no reason. I think Jimmie will be the Chev to raise to the top - that guy is just so cool. How many races have we seen Jimmie cut a tire or something, go down 2 laps and still end up with a top 10? I expect nothing out of pole sitter Kahne, except maybe for him to fail post race inspection. Edwards was fast and he's on right now and Bifle has won this race multiple times. Martin still wants/needs/deserves a win this year, but I don't think it'll happen. Junior hasn't turned a fast lap here yet - slow in every practice. And I keep overlooking Logano - sure would be neat for him to finish second. I have never seen this kind of streak before. Okay - this isn't rocket science. Here's my payload: 1. Carl Edwards 2. Greg Bifle 3. Jimmie Johnson last: Mike Bliss 1st caution: Kevin Conway # of cautions: 8 8 cautions seems high (like me!), but did you see the Nationwide race yesterday? Speaking of, did you see that Trevor Bayne?!? I really think he is the next big thing! He's still younger then Logano (and probably always will be). He slapped the wall pretty hard in the last quarter of the race and still made it back to third. If I were Roush and I could find a way around the contracts, I would replace David Regan with Trevor Bayne today |

We used to go to Bristol and say that if you ahd a wild, many cautioned Busch/Nationwide race, it would be a relatively calm Cup race because everyone had watched that race and said "we need to be calm out there or we are goign to just take out all of hte good cars." Of course, if you had a relatively calm Nationwide/Busch race, get ready for a wild cup race. It might be a long green flag day today.

Hi `Duane,
I hope that you will be able to watch the race 2day...What is your estimate for the longest green run ? I think there will be a lot of cautions because everyone will be trying for a good finish in their last race of the year... That was an awesome last race and the best Miami I can remember!!!
Go CHEVROLET !!!!! Jimmie brings it home for an an precedented dynasty! And my picks were pretty damn good too! I picked first & last and most importantly the Champion. That extra time thinking paid off! Too bad for Logano. I wanted to see him kick Peblos ass when Peblo got off the track. I laughed my ass off when Harvick dumped Kyle B and his car caught fire. In that moment Harvick proved himself something of a champion. I've never cheered Jimmie to the Championship, but that felt pretty good! Congrats Jimmie and thanks for keeping the Sprint Cup home!!! |

Well you won the last race of the year, Brent.... How about next year we get a points system for ourselves? Everyone gets to pick 3 drivers, and however many points those drivers get, the person who picked them gets... then at teh end of the year, we have a MCF champion? What do you think guys? I also propose 5 bonus points to anyone who can pick last place, and 5 points each for picking the number of cautions and the top 10 breakdown EXACTLY!!! This isn't a closest thing wins... if you don't nail it exactly, you don't get it. Whose up for it?
I'll post some reflections on the season tomorrow. Five Ford's, 4 Chevrolets, and 1 Toyota in the top 5. |
Well nascar made their calculated moves to insure Johnsons 5 championship(Hamlin gets spun out, Harvick gets a speeding penalty). They might as well change the name to Jimmycar or The Chase for Johnson. All kidding aside Great job by the top three teams in the closing weeks. This was the best chase yet,But I still hate the chase.
And cowboy that sounds like fun but also alot of work to get together. If we did something I would suggest just 1 point for a correct pick with bonuses for the other stuff. Then maybe a extra Question every week like cautions, first out, most laps led. this could be fun. |
