Coming into Darlington this weekend, here are a few of the statistics that show why Chevy is the manufacturer everybody wants to beat. In the first ten Sprint Cup Series races to date, a Chevy has led 54% of all laps run and, more importantly, has led the final lap of the race 6 times. Our drivers have occupied 58% of the top-5 finishing positions so far, and currently six of them are among the twelve chase contenders. Each of our Key Partner teams has played a role in giving us a lead in the Manufacturers’ Cup points that now stands at 19.

“While all of that sounds impressive, starting Thursday the slate is wiped clean. Each team has to come back and show that they can do even better than they did the week before. Regardless of whether a team is first or last in the point standings, there is always something that can be improved. What separates the best from the rest is the relentless pursuit and continuous improvement, no matter how good they ran the week before. For teams near the top of the standings, it’s much harder than for the ones in the rear. At the front of the pack, the gains per dollar (or hour, or whatever measure you choose) get smaller and smaller. That can make it hard to justify spending the resources to find what might amount to a fraction of a horsepower, or a count of downforce or drag. But Team Chevy teams know that they have to do just that in order to continue racing for wins and championships. They make use of their impressive internal engineering resources and take full advantage of the technical resources that GM Racing makes available to uncover more capability in the Chevrolets that they bring to the track every weekend.
“The race on Saturday in Darlington should be a great one for the fans. Every team contenting for the Chase for the Sprint Cup will be fighting hard to stay there, and those outside will be trying to claw their way in. We’ll all get to see a no holds barred event at a track that rewards excellence. Team Chevy’s excellence has been evident all year, and this weekend shouldn’t be any different. I wouldn’t bet against another Chevy trip to victory lane.”

It's a rare occasion that Martin expresses confidence, and he did after qualifying. If he thinks he's going to win then so do I. Darlington is not the kind of track I'd expect Junior's luck to change - surviving this race will be key. Kyle Busch hitting the wall during qualifying was a highlight and a good indication he's not going to make it. Jeff Gordon is strong right now - to me it feels like he is winning this championship - but he can't close the deal. Hamlin seems more bullet proof then Jimmie Johnson and after the Nationwide victory last night, he'll likely be in top form. That bum knee of his has made him come alive! If last night was any indication, lots of cautions tonight.

I sure hope that Mark Martin charges 2day...Seems like he's just been drifting and not taking any chances in the few races that I got to watch...I know that he can win..., I just hope he wants to & get's up on the wheel.... : )

I'd rather see Jeff G win the ChampionShip over J.J., but I think it's going to be someone else...? My choice is Joey Logano...maybe not this year, but in the future...I like the way he drives (he's a silent charger & sneaks up on driver and flies by : ) LOL, plus I like the few interviews I heard him on.& he wasn't a wise kid & was humble...He's a lucky kid 4 real sure...He makes more in one race, then I make in a year : ) WoW

Denny Hamlin wins at Richmond: #11-Denny Hamlin won the Showtime Southern 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway for his 3rd race of 2010 and 11th of his career. He also won the Nationwide race Friday night. It was his first weekend sweep in Nationwide and Cup. Pole sitter #1-Jamie McMurray finished 2nd, followed by #2-Busch, #24-Gordon, #42-Montoya, #29-Harvick, #18-Busch, #31-Burton, #39-Newman, and #83-Vickers. Harvick extended his points lead to 110 over #48-Johnson, who was involved in a wreck with #43-Allmendinger midway through the race and finished 36th. There were 20 lead changes among 11 drivers and 11 cautions for 56 yellow flag laps.
