[align=center]Video: NYC Victory Lap
[:-]Written by Administrator & Empty`Space [:-]
A massive crowd, lined the streets of New York City yesterday to watch the top 10 drivers fire up their 800 horse power engines and wheel their stock cars from Times Square to The Hard Rock Cafe. It's all part of NASCAR's annual Victory Lap tour celebration.

With 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet leading the way, the drivers drove in a 1.5-mile loop through the heart of the Big Apple. The parade started in front of Good Morning America’s Times Square studios and finished up on 43rd Street and 7th Avenue in front of The Hard Rock Café.

“It’s really an honor for us to drive through the streets of New York City and see everybody,” Johnson said.
A crowd estimated at 150,000 lined the parade route. ABC-TV carried live coverage of the event.

The Victory Lap included the top 10 drivers in the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series final standings: Johnson, Jeff Gordon (No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet), Clint Bowyer (No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet), Matt Kenseth (No. 17 DEWALT Ford), Kyle Busch (No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST Chevrolet), Tony Stewart (No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet), Kurt Busch (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge), Jeff Burton (No. 31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet), Carl Edwards (No. 99 Office Depot Ford), and Kevin Harvick (No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet).
This is the fourth year the Champions Week has included a Victory Lap, which has become the must-see event of the week for fans.

Even those drivers who have participated in prior years were amazed at Wednesday’s show.

“It’s neat to be able to drive a race car through downtown New York – that’s pretty crazy,” said Edwards, who was part of the Victory Lap in 2005. “It’s cool to see all the people amazed at what’s going on.”

PENSKE RACING ANNOUNCES ORGANIZATIONAL
CHANGES FOR 2008

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (November 28, 2007) – Saying goodbye to one of its longtime leaders and fortifying itself for the future, Penske Racing announced several key organizational changes for the 2008 NASCAR season on Wednesday.

Don Miller, who has served as President of Penske Racing South, Inc. since its inception in 1990, is retiring from his position after nearly two successful decades at the highest levels of stock car racing. Miller, 68, has presided over 75 victories, 95 pole positions and more than $90 million in winnings for Penske Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series as well as NASCAR Busch and ARCA Series events.

Penske Racing also announced Tuesday that Mike Nelson, who just completed his first season as crew chief of the No.12 Alltel Dodge driven by Ryan Newman, has been promoted to Vice President of Operations. In his new role, Nelson will oversee Penske’s entries in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series programs, reporting to Tim Cindric, President of Penske Performance, Inc.

In addition, Roy McCauley, an experienced crew chief and engineer for Penske Racing since 2002, has been named crew chief for the No. 12 Alltel team. Reuniting a winning combination, McCauley will once again be paired with Newman. The duo produced wins in six of the nine Busch Series races they competed in during the 2005 season, with McCauley serving as crew chief.

“On behalf of our 39,000 employees, I want to thank Don Mill

Sears’ Decision Will Create Branding Opportunity With One Of NASCAR’s National Series
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2007) – The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has begun marketing entitlement sponsorship of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series beginning with the 2009 season.
This follows a decision by Sears that its Craftsman brand will forgo its sponsorship rights following the 2008 season.
“Craftsman has been a great, longstanding partner and intends to remain in the sport,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR Chief Marketing Officer, in a joint announcement with Sears. “The current series name will continue through the 2008 season with the same great commitment Craftsman has demonstrated throughout its 13-year history as the series’ entitlement sponsor.”
“The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series represents some of the world’s best racing; the season championship has been determined in the final race of the year in 12 of 13 seasons – including 2007,” Phelps said. “The series continues to attract some of NASCAR’s most avid fans because of its intense, side-by-side competition.”
“Craftsman has been the sponsor of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series since its inception in 1995 and since then we have developed strong relationships with millions of loyal NASCAR fans we value greatly,” said Scott Howard, Manager of Marketing Partnerships for Sears. “While we will be relinquishing title sponsorship of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the end of 2008 we continue to explore new opportunities within NASCAR.”
The series just wrapped up a successful 13th season of 25 races at 22 tracks in 19 states from coast-to-coast. Ron Hornaday Jr. won his third series championship with a record $1,137,044 in winnings.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is carried live by SPEED with two events broadcast live by FOX.
