I thought it would be cool to go through 2012 with my Monte. 2012 was a very big year for me and my Monte. This past year I can say I spent the most time with my car as far as modifying it, than any other year since I’ve owned it. I did a new stereo, got new wheels, new rksport front lip, lots of painting, LEDs, and MORE!!
Here’s the story of my 1999 Monte Carlo in 2012
One of the first mods I did to my car this year was “stealth bulbs”. I really digged the look of my projector headlights, but the egg yolk of the turn signals had to go. So I bought some cheapy lights that sufficed to give me the look I wanted
I got bored one day so I decided to paint the vents in my dash black and silver.
Early in 2012, I was having problems with my JVC headunit so I decided it was time for a new one. I went with a Kenwood Digital Media Player because I liked the large screen, and the fact it didn’t have a CD player and I would just use an Ipod with it.
In it went, and soon after I put in a reverse camera too
Here’s how my Monte was looking mid-January.
I got the itch to do some LED work, so I added LED lights to the outside of my car under the door handles. They come on whenever the door is opened.
I scored two big items in April. A set of 077 18” Chrome wheels, and a front valance from a RKsport kt.
I cleaned the wheels up real good and got some tires for them shortly after.
Some of you may remember my woes with my RKsport lip. I tried and tried to get that thing panted myself! After some help form you guys on the forum and some extra time, I got it painted gloss black and installed
Along with the front lip, I repainted the front bumper as it had some pealing clear coat.
Here was shortly after the paint job and new front lip.

With such a nice front end, I had to get rid of that horrid number plate, so I built myself a “show-n-go” license plate. The plate folds down and then slides along an aluminum frame under the bumper and out of the way making for some nice clean pictures
I custom painted the front bowtie to complete the new look.
Then in June I went on to win MOTM
In the middle of the summer came a new project of reviving my stock wheels into winter rollers. They came out great and are on the car right now, saving the 077’s from the nasty salted roads of Iowa.
I had a photoshoot at a lake in July. My best pictures of the year are from this shoot.
My summer was then over and I had to head back to school. I did one last thing and painted a bowtie on the hood insulation.
While at school I hatched up a plan to relocate my battery to my trunk. This is still a work in progress, but not far from finished.
Once snow threatened, off came the 077’s and on went the refreshed winter wheels.
Also still in progress in conjunction with the battery relocation was a new FWI. Here it is ready to go in the car as soon as the battery is relocated.
My latest project (since I can’t seem to have enough!) is custom LED tail light retrofit. This one is proving a little more difficult than my projector retrofit, but coming along nicely
That’s been the last year with my Monte. Thanks for coming along

Some high caliber competition for MOTY this year! I will have a hard time voting for sure! I think I may have dodge a bullet - by not winning MOTM until Jan 2013, I probably won't have to face off against any of these rides in next years MOTY competition. I hope not!
Great job so far guys! Keep the "showcases" coming - although I don't know if this is making it harder or easier to choose...
