Default Y2K-SS Traction Control

I believe my Monte is experiencing Traction Control issues. During our recent snow, I took the car for a run. When I encountered 6" of snow the traction control kicked in and a whirring....rrrr sound was heard. It sounded more like ABS kicking in. The strange thing is that there was so little power to the front wheels that they barely turned - they would not spin. Is this normal? It was almost like a centrifugal clutch system not working at full power. The car did not, or barely crawled through the snow. At one time only, the smell of burnt rubbercame from the engine area- possibly related? The car seems to run fine except when snow is encountered. Thoughts?

traction control kills power to the wheels, to prevent them from slipping and one rotating more than the other, has this happened more times than not?

did you try to give it more gas after the sound was heard?

Hit the trac off button in the middle.

Thanks. A little instruction on how the TC works is helpful. Even with giving it more gas does nothing to increase power. So, turn off the TC when in snow or mud muck. Evidently, TC does not operate like positraction. It is used for stopping slipping and sliding on hiway surfaces. The GM dealer would have me believe that something is wrong when I explained the situation to him.

whenever my traction control kicks on, i know it's bad to be driving in the area, if i can i slow the car as much as possible and proceed with caution

traction control is not the end-all-cure to driving fast in bad conditions.
