Alright, so here is the issue:

In early May I filled up my power steering fluid because it was making the classic whining noise. Then it was good, noise gone, car was driving fine.

Fast forward to present day: I have noticed in the mornings that when i press on the gas it makes a slight whining noise. I am not turning the steering wheel when this happens. My first thought was that the power steering fluid is low again. But the wheel was not being turned. But that is closed system, so it makes me nervous if it is the power steering. My only other thought is that the serpentine belt may need replacing? I will check that when I get done with work.

I guess my question is, what else makes the whining noise?

I have the same whine on my 98 with a 3.8 and I can't find it an it's driving me crazy..someone said serpentine belt but haven't had time to change it.

 

I have noticed that it only seems to happen in the morning when I press on the gas and turn the wheel. This is happening with my 2005 Monte Carlo 3.8L

 

I figured out what it was, there is a Steel line that goes underneath the entire engine. It is a common problem and not that big of a deal.
