i looked up history on here and found my 84 is a 4th gen.nice info however it said trim models sport coupe and ss but mine is a CL what does this mean custom luxury or what?

Correct - and it is an interior option package, not a model as many mistake it for. So you have an 84 SC with the CL interior option package.

Now, why GM ever put an exterior badge on a car denoting an interior option - who knows. There are a lot of people that think SC's are called CL's because of it though - especially since there is no SC badge (like the SS and later LS had).
