Weird 3400 question
When i check my oil on my dipstick the level is okay..but it doesn't look like oil its wayy to runny..and it smells like gas. No other issues with my car whatsoever.. its a 2003 and has the 3.4L with 97k on her all original. What could that be?! Should i be concerned that my ride is gona blow up, because its at paint shop and my painter told me of this and i went there to confirm it. He has to turn it on and off occasionally to move it around while he works on other cars but i just want to make sure my car isn't about to blow up. Thank you gentlemen in advance.

When was the last oil change? Conventional oil or synthetic? If the engine is cold, coupled with the cold few days we've had here it will be a little thin. But if its close to oil change time, change it.
Also, it will pick up a gasoline smell. As long as it doesn't smell strongly of gas, like its going to knock you over strong, it's not a problem.

First, I am a little curious, what made your painter check you oil??
Second, I'm not too familiar with reasons it would smell like gasoline. My best guess is your car is running too rich, weak spark (not igniting all the fuel), you have an injector leaking fuel in the engine when it's not supposed to or possibly a failing fuel pressure regulator.
If it's weak spark, it's probably due for plugs and wires to be changed. Those are just guesses at the moment.

WELL, he's all too familar with having 3100-3400-3800 etc having gasket issues and all. He just said the car smells like gas..and he believed my gaskets were screwed. But basically the back story of the car i got it from a kid i knew it was just driven in cleveland so it has some rust (trunk hole, holes behind both tail lights) among other messes we shall not get into, but only has 97k, has had a tranny rebuilt too. The car does need a valve cover gasket but was gona do oil change tune up etc. It has been sitting at my painters place since like sept 2012' and hes been slowing working on it among other projects..the car doesn't make any weird noises, no radical idle or anything. Feeling the ohio boys love tho we gotta together !!
