Unkown vacuum line
2001 Monte Carlo 3400. Can any body tell me what this vacuum line is for? Theres a vacuum nipple on the back passenger side of intake manifold. Right by the alternator and power steering pump. Ive attached a pic and circled what im talking about, but its not a pic of my actual motor. Its a pic off google. Almost identicle to my motor except the vacuum nipple on my motor has a hose attached to it aprox 1/8" diameter. The hose goes down behind the alternator toward firewall and i cant tell where it goes from there. Does anybody know what it is for?
The reason i ask is because the rubber elbow connecting the hose to the manifold is constantly tearing and causing a vacuum leak and the engine to sputter real bad. Im thinking whatever is on the other end of the hose might need to be cleaned or replaced. Its a very skinny hose and i dont want to take a bunch of stuff apart just to follow it. So im hoping somebody can tell me where it leads to.
Thanks in advanced

Pretty sure you're talking about the HVAC vacuum line. Is the HVAC blower air pressure weak?
Below is a link to a old thread I commented on with description, routing and pictures. The car is a '00 SS with 3.8L but the vacuum harness is probably the same except for the intake manifold connection. The line passes through the firewall and connects to HVAC controls.
