Default Transmission Hot / Idle Engine

I got this message on the drivers information center on my 2007 Monte Carlo SS several different times. It happens mostly when driving on the highway.

The dealership has looked at it but no codes are registered and they checked the tranmission fluid temperature and the sensor and all checked out okay. They were not able to recreate the message when test driving.

Has anyone out there had this problem and what was the final resolution?

Thanks.

Does it shift hard? Hows the temp needle on your guage? Sounds like your tranny may be going out. Did the check engine light ever come on?

It shifts normal. Temp guage is where it should be. No check engine light.

No unusual sounds coming from the tranny. Trans fluid is pink and doesn't appear to be getting burned up.

"Tranmission Hot / Idle Engine" comes up on the driver info center and goes off right away. It never stayed on for any extended period of time.

Did the problem exist before then?

No problems until last week.

I had to drive from Dayton, Ohio to Columbus, Ohio a couple of times last week (around 70 miles each way and mostly highway miles) and the message came up 4 times on the first trip to Columbus but no messages on the way back. Just the opposite the next day, no messages on the way up but the message came up 5 times on the way back.

I let it sit until I had a chance to let the dealership look at it. Got the car back last night and drove it to work today with no problems.

Very confusing.

When you did the Trans Fluid and Filter did you drain it or Flush it? You may have a Clog in the Trans Cooler or one of the lines!

I wanted to update this thread for anyone else who runs into the problem.

As time went along the "transmission hot/ idle engine" became more frequent, especially when driving on the highway at 65 to 75 mph. The transmission began having problems shifting into overdrive or would not shift into overdrive. This is consistent with other forums (Cadillac and Grand Prix forums) who indicated the same problems.

Therefore, I had the transmission rebuilt and just got my car back today.
