6th Gen ('00-'05): Transaxle shaft on lh side loose

Got my cv joints out. The lh shaft in the transaxle is loose. I can grab the shaft and move it quite a bit. This is the actual transaxle shaft in the transmission, not the cv joint half shaft. Anyone know if this is normal?

A little more detail please.
Is the movement in and out of the transmission or radial?
Do you have the c/v axle disconnected from the wheel hub and/or steering knuckle when you see this play?
Is there any noise while driving?
A video would be great.

Guess it would be radial. Didnt notice it axial but i have a check in the trans manuals for that. I have both sides cv axles, control arms, steer knuckles, and struts out for replacement due to probs on another post. In the manual the shaft with play is called an output saft. It runs from the planetary gear to the lh axle. I took the cv axle assy out and the output shaft seal that was a huge pita out. I noticed i can grab the shaft thats still in the transmission as the lh side cv axle is female that mates to the male part of the output shaft. I can grab the axle thats in the transmission transaxle on the lh side and wiggle it up and down. Would think that shaft have at least one bearing on both sides to support it.

Yah, axial is a better description.
No worries....Good news....some axial movement is normal. Hard to describe how much (maybe 1/8th inch) so here's a video with a guy replacing the left hand output shaft seal on a 4T65E. Look close and you can see how much movement there is on the shaft with the seal removed when he uses his finger to to wipe the race where the seal was removed.

Its very odd. Find it hard to beleive that the shaft is not supported at each end by some sort of bearing or race. I watched that same video lol. After i noticed the output seals r not like normal bearings and my seal drivers wont work. The trans manuals pretty confusing. Too many rotated views with multiple parta that all look nearly the same.

I know what you mean about the manuals. I have the factory manual. I replaced the 4T65E in my '03SS and noticed the same movement in both the transmission I removed and the used one I installed.
