Default transaxle fluid

Has anyone had to replace the transaxle fluid in their monte?? It says in the manuel that if you drive in a city that is consistently more than 90 degrees you shuold change it at 50 miles. Anybody have any idea how hard it would be to do yourself or how much it would be to take it somewhere?

yaknow i dont think i have ever actually done it my self on purpose. most of the time i have had to do it when im changing the axels on a car.
but for the most part it was not to difficult. each car was diffrent on what oil/fluid to use and also how to put it in. Some were a part of the normal tranny fluid and filter systems. others were non maintnace style

I change my tranny fluid and filter every 60K. Its not hard but messy you have to drop the pan. PS I have never had a transmission failure and doubt I ever will as long as the fluid is clean and the filter is clean because the transmission is just a Hydrualic pump!

Never changed transaxle fluid until the boots have broken.

Never have been told or advised to other than after boot leakage.

I am a very **** person, so I change mine every 30,000 miles. The fluid is not hard to change and what's even better is that onmost late model cars that have the 4T65-E tranny, the gasket is reuseable. When changing the fluid, it is also good to change the filter. If you really want to go all out, do what I did and buy a transmission pan with a drain plug in it. The one I bought has this along with cooling fins to keep the fluid a bit cooler.

If you are going to change the fluid, be aware that GM is recommending the use of DEXRON VI in cars that previously used DEXRON III. Although it doesn't really matter,it is best tohave your transmission flushed to rid it of DEXRON III so that there will be only DEXRON VI in there. It is, however, ok to mix both types.

Here are the upgrades from DEXRON III:

Clutch Friction Stability

Improved 100%

Clutch Durability Due To Fluid

Improved 120%

Oil Film Thickness

Increased 20%

Fluid Oxidation

Improved 100%

Foam/Aeration

Improved 150%

Shear Stability

Improved 200%
