Default 01 temp gauge - fans on

WellI am hoping someone has had this problem and has a fix. My 2001 SS temp gauge does not show any movement - the two engine cooling fans are on with the car running and stay on after awhile when the car is shut off. The a/c compressor does not engage when the switch is turned on(and the light in the switch is on) but the compressor does not engage. The switch for the inside outside air works (the light turns on and off) and the air does change. The blower fan works fine. Any more info just ask and I will return with reply. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

ik wish i could get mine to come on. i have never seen or heard them on. but they either work or the car has a great nack at keeping cool with out them.

as far as the A/C gose make sure it has enough freon in it. NOT R-12 it is the new stuff 134A i think.
But if the system is low they can cause them to not kick in also.

I would say it is a sensor problem as it is not moving at all. I think even with a bad Tstat your engine would still warm up a bit.

Tks for the replies. I purchased a new thermostat - temp sensor and a low coolant level sensor (I previously had an issue with getting false low coolant messages). I hope to replace them all tomorrow and see what happens. I did pull the fuses for the fans and they shut down ok and the engine did get pretty warm and still no temp gauge reading. So I'll see what happens tomorrow.
Again thanks for the reply

Well the good news is that all is working just fine. I replaced the temp sensor - the thermostat and gasket and the low coolant level sensor. The temp gauge works great - the fans are not always on (just when required), the low level coolant sensor is not giving erratic messages and the a/c works just great. Amazing how these little sensors affect so many accessories.
Thanks for all your help.
