timing ?s
hello all!
ok so i got a 96 monte carlo 3.4 DOHC, my question is doesnt this motor have a timing chain running to a center idler/conversion pulley then a timing belt running from said idle/conv pulley to all the cams?
also how many miles should the belt last and since it does have a belt does the chain ever wear out?
im getting a multiple random missfire on a few cylinders, and a slight hesitation, the plugs an wires have been changed an i did a compression test with all cylinders reading about the same
with the top plastic cover off the belt is looking pretty darn old an im wondering if i should just replace the belt or if i should do the belt, tensioner, idler pulleys and the chain......id hate to do all that work just to have to take it back apart an do the chain that is if im right and this engine does also have a chain

thanks!! that was some of the info i wanted, and i was correct there is a chain and belt but im guessing since the belt takes most of the beating the chain should be fine
my next problem is finding the procedure for timing the cams after the new belt is on.........i dont have a chiltons or an alldata account
would anyone want to take the time to copy an paste it here? otherwise i guess i could try google
i do have the haynes tho i dought it would have the procedure.....ill have to check
