Default Timing 3.8[229]

I bought my 84 monte the other day and found out today that the dizzy is loose[turn it by hand] This would hopefully fix my bad idle. Now can anyone tell me how to set it back to stock. Like i said in my intro thread i was out of chevy's for 13years and lost some knowledge lol

yeah i would say that is what he is talking about.

1. take out number 1 spark plug
2. bring it back up to T/D/C
3. pull dist. cap see wher eit is linig up to . the roter should be pointing to the number one plug.
if it is the vac. advance should be almost pointing to the front side of the block on the pax side.

if it is tighten up to where you can still move it but so it is not real lose.
put it back togeather and fire it up. this puts you in the genral area to where you should be.
Now take a timming light and shoot it down to the crank and set it to where the lines are about 3deg. before TDC

it has been a long time so i would check a manual for actual timeing on it as far as before or after tdc and the deg.

but that should get you to a ball park area to start with it.
Good luck

Nope, I'm not kidding. Learn the correct terminology and stop being lazy. Use the terms everyone understands.

We shouldn't have to guess what someone is talking about. I quess I am just used to talking to people that know what they are talking about and know how to spell "Distributor"! Yes, I do have a sense of humor and I am laughing at you, and I suspect others are too. Let's drop this conversation.

Maybe with all this "know how" you should start your own web site. Now go play PEE-KNUCKLE with the other old folks and stay off my thread.
