6th Gen ('00-'05): Timing Chain 05 SS
#11
Buddy asked same question about double roller breaking... ZZperformance.com is where all my goodies came from; double roller's don't break on a v-8; why on a v-6? I'm unlucky, so $800 head job, with I think, 3 valves, seats etc.. All put back together... and at idle it sounds like a f!--ing Diesel engine?!?!?!?!?! up to like 1700 Rpm... this sounds like a Dodge diesel pickup truck!

ran for 200 miles; then left me at the side of the road again. This time keyway on cam shaft was slightly slotted out, so timing had to be off just slightly; (which I think was the reason for diesel sound / lifter probs) This time it damaged all valves :-( 150 miles out of town at the time, $550 tow job, 2 more weeks in the shop, with heads / valves being re-done a second time. I haven't got the bill for the second go around yet; but it is back together, sounds like it used to, has awesome power... Plugged in my HP tuner and did some scans / runs with it. (I have a little KR in 2nd gear, I'll post in another thread though about that...) I guess overall thoughts was maybe a mfg defect in double roller, and originally when it was put back together, cam keyway that might have been slightly "slotted" was overlooked, causing the "diesel" sound.
