East, have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor? I was having similar problems when I first got my car and it turned out the MAF's filament was very dirty. It would hesitate going up hills, when accelerating, and shifting from 3 to 4 gear. It's attached to the MAF housing by 2 torx screws.

I'll check that out. I'm going down to the dealership in an hour to have them diagnose the problem, only 50 bucks. From there I'll do my own work or get someone cheaper to do it. I just want an educated opinion I guess, but yours sounds spot on to what mine is doing definitely so I'll be sure to bring it up to them. Maybe they'll clean that for me. If not, I'll just do it myself when I get home. I didn't touch the MAF sensor just yet because TBH I feel like I don't know what I'm doing and like you said the sensor is very delicate and correspondingly expensive.

Thanks again MonteSS02

Default Exact same problem!

East, our Monte is doing almost the EXACT same things as yours was. You never posted your results. I'm just sure what was wrong with yours is wrong with ours... tach bouncing, hesistation, the whole bit. What did you find? Thanks!

resurrecting this thread

My 04 with 99k just started doing this yesterday. I started my car, it hesitated in a "chugging" manner, revved up to ~2000rpm then died. It started right back up but bounced back and forth from 500-1000rpms acting like it wanted to die. I drove off and it hesitated hard and I had to keep on the gas. Today it'd doing the same, but as long as I keep it at ~1000rpms it seems fine. It also "bucks" sometimes around 10-25mph (shifting zone from 1st to 2nd).

Earlier this year I replaced my LIM gasket and the 2 black elbows from the water pump to intake (it's supercharged). It seems like I have another small leak somewhere behind the serpentine system. I think it's where the intake meets the block, or close to the waterpump. It might be those autozone plastic elbows causing leaking (I don't like the fact that they just pop in place with an o-ring sealing it).
Anyways, I'm loosing coolant and I think it might be leaking into the cylinders. I don't see or smell coolant in the oil, so it might just be on the outside.

I REALLY hope coolant in the cylinders isn't the cause to my problem.
