Great thread! I've been dealing with cars since the early 70's and there was some discussions here that I was not aware of, such as tire pressure having alot to do with the type of car and not just the tire. I have aftermarket tires and run the recommended pressure of 44 psi. I've had great luck with wear, 44,000 miles and still pretty good shape, but now I am wondering if playing with pressure would improve the ride, handling, etc.

The pressure listed on the sidewall is more than likely maximum pressure, not recommended pressure. Running a tire at maximum pressure can be dangerous since pressure will increase when the tire gets hot. So if you are at the maximum pressure and you get on the highway on a hot day, the pressure in the tires will actually increase above the maximum that the tire is designed for.

k im a mechanic at honda. we set all our pressures at 32 to 34 in the summer and sping and 30-32 in the colder months. when the tires heat up the aitr will expand causeing more pressure.NEVER EVER FILL TO MAXIUM PRESSURE WRITTEN ON SIDE WALL. that is just a saftey thing. do 32 psi and call it a day. that wat was causein abnormal wear on both sides of ur tire. ur alighntment prob didnt help that much either. usually alighnment cause abnormal wear on the inside only or the ouside only. since u took off so much tire tread on your tires i would definatly balance them with 32 psi to prevent more abnormal wear.

He had them overinflated, which would wear the center of the tire rather than the outside edges of the tire...
