Default Stock/Factory Oil

From what I've seen, asking a question on oil recomendations would open a huge can of worms. So, I have another question.

What engine oil did GM use or recommend off the line? I'm only curious, as the vehicle I just purchased was a GM program vehicle, and all service was provided by GM service shops, and I would like to continue using the same oil.

Thanks for any info...

Hmm, good to know. I suppose GM knows best (except in the case of DexCool). I'd be curious to know what that runs /qt. I'll have to talk to my dealership.

I try to be a very conservative driver (I'm averaging 27.8 mpg out of my '02 SS right now). With this in mind, do you have any ballpark estimates of when the Oil Life system might give me the thumbs up for an oil change? Just curious...

I had 237,876 miles on my last car - a 1991 Honda Accord DX w/5spd Manual Trans, and had 168,780 miles on my 1985 Sierra when I sold both of them, which both were running excellent.

One oil change a year, I would put 1-Qt of Slick 50 in and the rest any Quality Oil (Quaker State, Valeline, Penn, etc.). With mine, I plan to do the same thing with the exception, I will use Mobil One aslong as I can afford it, with a K&N Oil.

The Big Thing to save a lot of money is to rotate your tires every oil change. Our tires are not cheap... Rotate them often enough and you can double their life... WELL, as long as you are not melting them onto the pavement - which is hard not to do when you have all that V8 power to play with.... lol

Craig, I definitely feel your pain there. The 17's on the 3LT of mine aren't exactly cheep either, allthough I'm sure they're a fair shade from your 18's. I'm rotating them every 6k, which is exactly what my MC ends up asking for an oil change. I thought about extending that, beings that I run Mobile one synthetic, but ahh, it's worth it for the extra protection. The used stuff still comes out a heckuva lot blacker than it went in, that's for sure. One thing that saves me a bunch of money is the tire relearning, takes 10 minutes to do it at a gas station.. so it's not worth the 10$ that GM wants to do it. Heck, it takes thos greedy terds the whole of 45 seconds to do it with that computer wand thing they all got. Geinus programming actually flashes the turn signals of the tire to relearn, so you don't even have to remember a pattern or anythingjust air out like 5 pounds then put it back in...

Omg... reminds me of someone on here telling a chick to change the air in the tires.... Lmao, dang that still cracks me up imagining that.... hope she didn't use one of those quarter air machines... worthless things would take forever to fill up one tire....

Look what else they have on their site, non dex-cool coolant.

Notice the disclaimer:

Antifreeze-Coolant
GM Antifreeze-Coolant mixes perfectly with water, flows freely, and transfers heat efficiently. Requires no additional corrosion inhibitors. Protects to -34°F below zero. Helps prevent rust and corrosion and protects aluminum components. It will not harm rubber hoses, pump seals, or gaskets. Can be used with either low- or high-opening thermostats and at high altitudes.

I don't think that there are truly any vehicles that requiredex-cool is the funny part.

Thanks for the info on the 6k/oil change per the Monte prompting you. I'll be interested to see what mine does.

Man, I feel way outta place. There's a tire re-learn process? Is this something I haven't come to in my owner's manual yet?

Thanks...

Tire re-learning? Splain it to me. Not re-setting the tire pressure monitors?
I rotate my tires and change the oil filter every 6,000mi, and change the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil every 12,000mi.. Been doing this for years now.
