Default Stock alarm system (7th gen) ?

Been meaning to bring this up for a while now, but since it happens once every 9 months or so, i kept forgetting about it . . . .

Do the 7th gens have a stock alarm system? I'd guess not because when the car is locked, i can sit there and try to open my doors 10 times, without triggering a chirp, but when the car is locked and i hit the trunk button on the key fob, if I don't open it right away (say i get sidetracked and it takes me 10 minutes) I'll open the "popped" trunk and it'll act like it's in "panic" mode where it just honks and honks and honks.

Is there a trick/reason for this?

Probably a stupid question but, When you sit in the car, are you just hitting the lock button on the door or on the remote? If you are just hitting the lock button on the door, it doesn't activate the alarm.

no, i always use the key fob, because when i lock it, it responds with a reassuring honk to tell me it's locked. hehe

And when you said "try to open the doors", did you mean just pulling the handle on the locked door? Just trying to clear things up a bit :P

Ahh ok. Try opening the windows, getting out of the car, and locking it with the remote. Reach in the window and manually unlock the door. Open the door and the alarm should sound. Just pulling the handle isn't enough to trigger the alarm.

i'll have to try it after work . . . interesting solution . . .

and this should trigger the alarm to sound whenever someone pulls the (outside) handle when it's locked? or what?

That's just a way to test if the alarm works. It only triggers when the door is actually opened. If someone just pulls the handle, nothing happens. It's only when the door is forced open (god forbid) that triggers the alarm. Opening the windows and manually unlocking is just a way to test if the alarm works.
