Steering Wheel Decal in 06 Monte LT
Many new GM cars have a nice emblem in the center of the steering wheel. My 06 Monte happens to be one of them, it has a nice metal circle with a gold bowtie right in the middle of the steering wheel.
Two days ago, some lady almost side-swipped me, so I laid on the horn, well after, I realized that I dented in the emblem in the center of the steering wheel. Needless to say, I was really PO'd. I called the dealer to ask if I could by a new emblem, and they said the emblem is part of the front steering wheel cover, and airbag unit, so I could not fix the emblem without replacing the entire airbag unit.
Does anyone know anything about this??? Any ideas of what I could do to fix this?
I appreciate all ideas!
Thanks,
Michael

I've heard that before. Have you tried popping the dent back out? I don't know how extreme with trying you want to get as the airbag is back there somewhere. If you end up getting it straight again you could always repaint or put a decal over to hide any markings.
I think it's just a really thin sheet of metal isn't it?

Actually, I have tried to pull it out with one of those cheap as seen on TV dent Kings, and it did work to a point, then stopped...Now the dent is only a small one about nickel sized in the center of the bow-tie. the ding king won't get that out, the glue just pops off now before pulling the dent. I think at this point its to deep. I also tried heating it up with a heat gun, then freezing it in hopes the expanding and contracting of the metal would make it pop. But again, I think its to small and deep at this point for that to work.
Any suggestions for pulling on it? Also God_Bot, you mentioned putting a decal over it if i was able to get it out, but ruined the finish. What decals are you talking about? are they round like the steering wheel decal? where would I purchase these???
Thanks for your help,
Michael
BTW, your Monte is really nice!

Let's see, I got my decal from grafxwerks.com
It's actually only the bowtie part but they might have the full circle if you look at other vehicles. I can't remember if mine is the Cobalt steering wheel overlay or if I just got 5 overlays for my wheels.
You might send them an email with the dimensions of the circle and bowtie and ask if they could make you an overlay for the whole circle.
I've never pulled any dents myself, I know there are some tools that require a small hole that you can then pull on. Maybe look into that?

I also have an 06 monte carlo lt,
and i have the same exact problem, middle of the steering wheel dent in the emblem, dont remember how it got there at all.
Havent tried to get it out because i dont want to mess it up more, the metal is very thin. have you fixed yours?
