Default 1997 Monte Carlo Steering Wheel Controls - HELP

I have a 1997 Monte Carlo that I bought used. Everything in the car worked fine untill about a week ago when the factory GM stereo started to go "whacky". For no reason, the tuner changes radio stations by itself, and also skips tracks on a CD- for absolutely no reason at all....

My guess would be that everything is linked to the steering wheel controls. I feel there is a short somewhere or something is being pinched somewhere....

Has anybody else expierienced this problem before? Is there an easy fix? And is there a way to completely disconnect the steering wheel controls from the back of the radio INSTEAD of the steeringwheel harness?

Thanks in advance for any help. I apreciate it

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately there is no way to disconnect it from the back of the stereo. It's all built into the wiring harness. You will need to disconnect it at the steering wheel.

Thanks for the welcome

I was afraid of that. I knew it wouldnt be simple! [:@] Alright, is there any diagrams that you can point me to that will help me locate the wiring harness? I personally have never worked on a Monte Carlo before so I am a little bit in the dark here....

TIA

This is the only thing I can find. It cost's 67.50 but you will never have to worry about knowing how to do something again. It is the Helm Service Manual and contains about 3000 pages of info.
