Default Steering Box

Just purchased a 87 Monte SS, car is a 7/8 out of 10 over all except the steering is real loose. Can this be tighten at the steering box? Only steering box I ever messed with was an old VW. Any help would be appreacited.

Default RE: Steering Box

Yes, easiest adjustment is right on top of the box. Make sure your steering is straight ahead, loosen the nut, and take the slack out of the allen screw. DO NOT TIGHTEN PAST LIGHT CONTACT!!! This should take a lot of the slack out. The other adjustment is made using spanner wrenches on the steering column input end, adn requires in/lb torque wrenches. A good chiltons book (check your local library) will have the in depth instructions on both adjustments.
