Hey guys, first post, but I plan on being here as much as I can... Im pretty new to cars so I plan on trying to pick a few things up. I know the basics, oil change, general maintenance, but not much past that. heres my little "problem".


I got this car a few weeks ago as a gift, its a 2001 monte carlo LS, but when I start the car, every once in a while (like 1 in 10 times) it sounds like the starter keeps trying to start the car. it just makes this loud "ZZZZ" sound for a second or so after I turn the key (with me not still turning the key as it makes the sound). im wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might be happening?

 

Bendix driver on the starter is hanging up on the flywheel

Check to make sure the starter is tight

If it is, then my guess would be to replace the starter

it will be coming up on time for a new starter soon

 

dang... well, it works as of now and is on my list of things to get done then... how much does a starter usually go for?

 

they'renot toobadfor our car's...i'm sure they're cheaper in the states, but i sell them for about 192, so they're probably about 150 down there

 

Autozone has it for $148 plus a $32 core charge
