Spark
I have a 01 SS 3800 i read and now can't find it that the coils in a 3400 are hotter than the ones in the 3800 is the any bearing on that. If that is true would it be a good idea to to a junk yard and get them or are the ones like Jegs or summit any better

The 3100, 3400 and 3800 N/A (also known as the L36, non-SuperCharged) all run the same coils.
The hotter coils you speak of come from the 3800 SC (also known as the L67, the 3800 Supercharged). FYI - The Ignition Control Module under the coils on the L36 and L67 is the same module and the wires are the same, it's just the coils that are different.
I don't know the part number, but I know they only came on the L67 and have a blue connector on the bottom (the others are gray). But the L67 gives you a little hotter spark, translating to slightly improved throttle response. I'm running L67 coils on my '94 Grand Am (3100), my '04 Monte (L36 3800) and my wife's '05 Impala (3400).
I hope that info helps.
