Default Shuts Down While Idling

Hi all - 2004 MC SS/SC Intimidator with 3.8. 112K miles on it

I've noticed in the last couple months (has happened 2-3 times) that while idling over lunch the car will suddenly shut off. Just prior to shutting off, it will rough idle for a second or two and then die. Restarts just fine.

Idle time is usually around 30 minutes at that point (I know, I know...I shouldn't do that). This is in MN so I don't know if the cold temps have anything to do with it.

MAF was replaced in the last 6 months.

I'm having similar issue. Replaced my MAF, wasn't it either..
I've heard in some instances, it can be caused by the EGR or Fuel Pressure Regulator. Have you checked either of them? I'm hoping to have the shop take another look at it soon. If I find a solution, I'll make sure to post it.

I haven't checked either of those; just had the car in the shop this week too. Dang.

I also have a'04 Monte S/C Intimidator w/25,000 mi. with a similar problem. Occassionally when we have 0 deg temps here in NE/IL car starts just fine in a garage, warm it up for 10-15 min.,shift to reverse and the idle is rough.Sometimes it has even died. Start the car again with no problem and it runs fine.Even tried it in D first and no problem. No codes detected either. If any of you figure what the problem is post it up.

Whens the last time you did a tune up? Could be the Plugs are worn out significantly enough that the Gap maybe compromised thus causeing the staling at idle .... May also be time for wires etc...
Have you recently used any dry gas or Injector cleaner?
Could be you have just enough moisture in the system to possibly cause an issue also. Using either I'm sue would definitely prove to be a benefit...
Especially since you are having such colder Temps in Minnesota.

sounds like your crankshaft sensor is failing..if you have a scan tool, hook it up until it starts to stall...check to see if the pcm is reading a crank sensor signal...they are known for failing like this...mine did the exact same thing a few weeks back...also, check your fuel pump pressure and make sure it is not dropping off...this is caused by the fuel pump heating up and failing

Exclamation 1984 monte starts, then shuts off 5-10 seconds later!

So i just bought a 1984 monte carlo, has a swapped 400sbc, 550cfm ebrock 4 barrel carb, high rise vortec intake, long tube comp header, dual flow master exhaust. thing is awesome...but today I had to change my alternator because of course the other one was bad and draining my battery. well I put the new one on, and what do you know, the car starts right up! but then dies 5-10 seconds later.... what could be the problem? any help would be awesome! please email me, be easier to communicate? v.speak@live.com
