I appreciate all the input. I didn't realize how expensive the 18" tires were. So what's the nature of the tranny problems people have been having, slipping or late shifts or what? The thing that worries me about the oil consumption is that it stuff like that won't exactly be obvious during a test drive. Still I'll get it up to a garage that I know very well and have them take a look at it. Also I will try and see if I can have the dealership put me in touch with the original owner.

Still undecided but thanks for the info. Oh another question. Would 16 inch rims clear the brake rotors on the SS? Reason I'm asking is if I have this for next winter, I really don't want to leave the chrome rims on it and I don't want to think about how expensive 18" snow tires would cost.

18 inch tires arent that expensive. the rims are polished aluminum with a clear coat they should be fine in winter. i run the alcoas in the snow no problems so far and its been 2 years. tranny problems deal with convertor issues, and a few others. sloppy shifts and what not. oil consumption can be remedied by turning off dod.

Displacement on depand is supposed to be the problem behind the oil consumption. You can have it tuned out and won't burn oil anymore.

I have an 06 SS as well, just rolled over 30k on it within the last couple weeks. Before the last two services I have had the engine oil light come on saying it was low, this last time I took it to the dealer and had them check, so they could record if it was in fact low, and said it was not low on the dipstick..but other than that the tpms would be the only other problems I have had. I've had to replace 2 of the 4 sensors already, and a third has quit working, these will run around 100-120 a piece labor and all.
Also, just remembered, the power steering hose had to be replaced, as it broke, this has been recalled though, I would think this is something you could ask them to do as a term of purchase since it has been recalled if it has not been replaced.

I would look into Randdaddy's vehicle with that low mileage. I have an 2006 and thank god no oil or tranny problems with 53K miles. Definately get a Carfax like Kidface suggested and get a good mechanic to look it over before taking anyones word. Buyer beware!

Not to get your hopes up, but I have an 05 ls. My father, on the other hand, is the one with the mint 06 SS haha.

We just came back from a trip to CT, and Tennessee on the way home. Total of 3,113 miles. Burned one quart of oil. DOD is on. The car was an absolute honey on the trip. Mileage was anywhere from the worst at 24.3-26.8 at the high. As far as my transmission I had my trans filter and fluid changed at 60K. I don't believe in flushes. So far so good. You won't be sorry with an 06 or 07.

I love my 2006 SS. I have had it for 2-1/2 years. I have just shy of 43,000 miles on mine. No tranny issues and I burn zero oil. I am still on my original tires!
I would part with mine for $15,500 if anyone was interested. LOL!
