Default Service Engine Light

Does anybody know how to disable the service engine light on my 2000 Monte Carlo. The mechanic said it was on because of my drl's being on 24/7.

my DLR are on all the time but i dont get that CEL.....by any chance does your message board say highbeam low but both high and low beams are on? i would take it to a autozone so they can scan and make sure. And if its that reason i would imagine you would have to get the PCM tuned to delete that code

I'm not talking bad about your mechanic but that doesn't sound right at all, all of our cars have drl's and no check engine lights, or service vehicle lights on. I'd go to the dealer and have them check it with the tech 2 and see whats going on. I also don't know how to disable the light, but wouldn't recommend it. Most of the time the light is on and its driving fine is something emission related, in my case two times it was the oxygen sensors going, and one was my intake manifold gasket leaking air, which saved me from having to replace the motor if god forbid the upper gasket had failed completely and hydrolocked the motor, my upper was losing coolant, lower was leaking vacuum.

Go have the code read, the service vehicle light would come on if they didn't work.
