Default Service Engine Codes? Help?

So i brought the car in to have the service engine code checked. and I got a P0300 and a P1870. I know the codes are random cylinder misfire and a torque clutch converter slip. The mechanic said the P0300 code had over half of the lights onwhen he checked it, one including speed sensor code (which could tie in with the P1870)?

The only times ive seen the P1870 come on is after ive been driving a while, then shut the car off for 5-10 minutes (i.e. food or gas stop), and then when i restart its a hard shift to switch out of park to drive, and after i start moving the light comes on. And it doesnt happen all the time either, it will happen maybe once a week or so. the light will be on a day or two go off then come back like 3-4 days later.

any ideas

Hi there

I can speak from experience on the P0300 error. I just had one a few months ago. After playing and asking the guys here on this site as well as a mechanic it ended up being my ignition module.

I had hoped that it was just a coil pack ($60) but it ended up being the module ($500)

i had swapped out the coil packs to see if it would correct the problem but unfortunatly to my discomfort it was the complete module.

Also you should get a OBDII reader from e-bay. I bought one online for $50CAD and it has been great. No need for a mechanic to read the code. Paid itself off aver the first repair

Out of curiosity, what is the temperature reading on your car at the time you get the P1870?
Also, since it seems there could be a link to the transmission you might want to make sure those codes are pulled as well. (maybe it was done already)
I know my mechanic takes the Monte to a trany shop to do this.

usually before it comes on the temperature is usually halfway to 3/4 on the meter. its usually when im in traffic, when stopped it goes up to 3/4 then when i start moving it drops down to under halfway. and during those stops the car idles hard where it feels like it keeps reving up, it will go back and forth between 075-1 on the RPM.

It seems to me that the Montes computer do something when the car runs hot. (Sensor related is my bet)
This is why I asked about your temp readings. I know my Monte's Shifting gets hard as soon as it get to about half on the temp guage.
As long as it stays below I'm okay. They tell me this has something to do with my EPC solinoid in My trany. (No lights on the dash for this one).
Sorry I can't be of any further help.
You'll have to post what you end up finding out.

so i was talking to my uncle who is a mechanic and works mainly on chevy's he said with what im experiencing and the codes with it. that its either the selenoids need more lubrication or a replace.. so we're trying a transmission flush (supposedly after that it can sometimes get the extra lubrication it needs and the problem goes way) and check out / replace wirings for the engine code that also came up.. hopefully its just that instead of changing the selenoids (thats 5-6 hour labor).

so did a tuneup , and changed all the wires. it did wind up that one of the wires was pretty much shot. and did a transmission flush.. 2 days and 200+ miles later light hasnt come back on. no high temp readings in traffic, no rough idling. so hopefully its all taken care of.. hoping the transmission flush is enough lubrication where that transmission code doesnt come back up.
