seat recliner adjustment 2002 M/C SS
I have searched here and on google but cannot find an answer. Even contacted local GM parts store, no help.My driver seat back has lost a lot of its spring. When using the lever at the side the back is slow to spring back up into the upright position, and doesn't even come all the way back up unless you manually assist it. The passenger side is great.Any ideas please?

I've never torn the seats apart on the Monte, but I'd imagine they are like most earlier GM seats. If that is true, you should be able to open the seat covers and gain access to the reclining mechanism (which will be on the side of the seat closest to the exterior door, the side with the lever). Odds are you are best just replacing the mechnism (which is bolted in with something like 4-5 bolts).
A GM dealer should have a parts break down of the unit, but odds are you'll be better off getting a salvage mechanism (I have to do that on my '84 Camaro years ago).

Thanks for the response.
I checked with the local GM parts dept and they didn't seem to know much. I took the seat out and I found that there is a spring mechanism on both sides. Lucky me all it was was a roll pin had wiggled it way out over time (like a 1" long wiggle) and so only one spring mechanism was doing the work in trying to pull the seat back up. Got the pin back in and working like new.

That's awesome!!! Glad it was an easy fix that did not require getting a whole new reclining mechanism!!
