Default replacing drivers side cv axle

hello im new here and im replacing the drivers side cv axle on my 2001 monte carlo and the axle nut is abnormally large any guesses on what the size could be before i go and waste money on a bunch of sockets i wont need i picked up the biggest socket i could find at my local lowes and it was a 36mm which i have been reading is on the bigger end of the axle nut size for these cars the socket doesnt even begin to go onto the nut thanks for the input its all appreciated

Don't think I've ever run across a wbody larger than 36. Ive seen 37 on other FWD stuff though. Ive also used a 1 7/16" in a pinch when I didn't have access to my tools / a 37 on hand. If you've got access to calipers, it's probably worthwhile to take a measurement so you don't have to guess..

Do you have an autozone closeby? They usually rent them so you're not buying it for a 1 off project.
