Replace the wiper switch...
So my daughters '97 Monte LS wipers stopped working. It was really cold w/ice on the windshield and she turned them on.[sm=headbang.gif] Of course they didn't move and then she said some smoke came from the turn signal lever.(I think she left them on but would not admit it) So 2 questions...
1. Is it the switch?
2. How do I change it?
I tried search with no luck.
Thanks for any input.

The smoke came out of the lever... inside of the car. The motor is outside, highly unlikely the smoke came thru the firewall. Plus the washer squirter stopped too.
I just don't see how by using your wipers on ice, there would be stress on the lever, doesn't that just send the signal outside to the motor and that would have all the stress?

NowI just need to find out how to get at the wiper switch... not the lever, the switch which is inside of the column with all the wires attached.
Has anyone had their column apart?
