Default Remove Throttle Body Screen???

I cleaned out my throttle body, and noticed there is a screen where the air comes into the throttle body. I looked around on how to remove this to clean behind it. I am finding several forums saying you can remove this to add performance. I am sure it was put there for a reason though, probably for the MAF sensor. Anyway, has anybody removed theirs, adn if you have did you find any benefit from it. I am leaning toward removing and cleaning behind and putting it back in, but if it adds performance benefit, I might leave off.

Put it back in when you remove it, it's there to straighten the airflow for a proper reading on the MAF. It is in no-way a restriction to airflow without a turbo or remote supercharger pushing a ton of extra air in.

That is kind of what i was thinking. I thought it was there for the MAF, but just thought I would as. I am (as I think we all are) looking for all the power I can get
