thats a rip off for virtually no work. you let the motor warm up and rev to the fuel cutoff around 4000-4500. that's it. it is just getting your hands on a scan tool that can do it.

I agree with you... The point is though, that the re-learn is usually not necessary at all after his tune unless it throws a code...

OK Zach, exactly what kind of scan tool is needed, which did you use? I know this doesn't actually pertain to me, but I was thinking of getting it for my 3.9 and I would most likely have the same issues?

I used a snap on scan tool. I borrowed it from the mechanics next door. It is like a $6500 tool I suppose you dont need something that crazy to do it. I was having some trouble with my car and initially using it to monitor my transmission

You would have a good chance to have to relearn with your car chris. I was told it is about $50 from most gm dealers but i could be wrong.

I guess I'll budget a few extra bucks into the project just in CASE (pun intended).
Anyone else have the Overkill tune done?

I have an Overkill PCM in my Monte, and when I installed it, it needed the security re-learn, which I was able to do with the instructions provided. However, I also had a check engine light thrown, and the code was for a crank position relearn, which Will made me aware of before selling me the PCM. He said it doesn't always happen, but it could. The crank relearn I had to have completed at a shop. The overall cost for the crank relearn was about $80 bucks if I recall. After getting the crank re-learn done, I had no problems after that and it runs AWESOME with the tune. I highly recommend the tune if you are looking to get more power, and better shift points.

My bad... I thought we were talking about the Crank re-learn (there is also another name for it, can't remember right now), that was what I took it to the dealer for and it was not necessary... The security re-learn will absolutely be necessary as it is part of the installation of the new PCM... If I remember correctly, I had to do it twice because of very little patience in following the instructions... When you do it, word of advise follow the instructions to the letter...
